Bars typically receive a minimum of 5 - 10 resumes each month without any advertising or soliciting of any kind. Your average bar will have about 20-50 bar resumes on file at any time. And it's this file that they go to when they need to hire someone from outside the establishment. If your resume is going to be in this file, you'll need it to stand out from the crowd.
Next, you'll want to show your bar manager or the bar owner that you're serious about your desire to start bartending. You can do this by first asking to shadow one of the current bartenders (without pay) and secondly, by offering to work a couple of the slower shifts - again, for free. This will do a couple of things. Firstly, it will show your manager that you mean business. Secondly, it will give you hands-on experience behind the bar, mixing, pouring, making drinks and engaging customers.
The Candy story board is always different because each life is unique. A variety of interesting and unique candies make for a good, sweet story. Utilizing candy stores and serendipity shops, that have unusual or nostalgic candies, will make your presentation that much more special. The Internet is naturally a very good source for these candies, as well.
